Summer Tour 2009 [six of six]: Tuesday, June 9

"Country Recording"

We get up late today in the rest stop and make our way - right away - to the furthest we can muster from the clusters of noise honks in a city - to finish recording vocals for The Western Front and Sarah's Wandering Bears. After driving a bit through that rolling green that is the Illinois/Iowa countryside - we find a nice little cut-out off a country road that's off a country road - where the mosquitoes live and there are many green jumpy frogs. I go for a little walk drinking cranberry juice and whiskey on ice - in my shorts and sandals in the bright white sun. Mitch cooks mashed potatoes and corn and I cook up some Minestrone soup - slurp it down then go to the trailer to belt it out for our record. Then Sarah does her business - and by then it's about seven - so we elect to just go sleep at a Wal-mart - find a super one in Dixon, IL [birthplace of Ronald Reagan] and we spend another night getting down in the trailer and looking at vintage nudie mags - a bunch of class acts. I buy an orange, nectarine, 2 kiwi, banana, and a pear - and eat them all at once - sending a jolt through my body.
